Title: Great Acoustic/Electric Bass Guitar Value for the Money
Review: For the price, this is an incredible acoustic/electric bass guitar. I play a Kay upright bass in a bluegrass band and wanted to experiment with an acoustic electric bass. This was the perfect choice because it didn’t cost much. I was worried I was going to get junk at this price but was I wrong on that……1. Overall quality of build: Yes this isn’t a Gibson or Martin….but it is 1/20th the price. The build quality is mechanically sound but it is very plain….uhhhh the price of this guitar is cheaper than replacing a Martin pickguard….The body is solidly built, not at all like those Sears guitars of days of yore….2. Playability: Feels comfortable to hold…fingerboard is good. Mine did not have any buzzing. Going up and down the fretboard, it felt pretty good….I have felt better fretboards on $1000+ basses, but this one will not impede you. Good musicians can get good sound and performance out of this guitar…3. Strings: REPLACE IMMEDIATELY. The OEM strings sounded a little flat and I felt a little disappointed. I replaced them with D’Addario Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Bass strings, EPBB170. The bass came to life. I heard all the high frequency overtones with the fundamental tones. These strings pushed me over the edge so that I REALLY want to use this bass now.4. Overall Sound: Surprisingly good. Compared to my 4 and 5 string electric basses, this bass definitely had a good acoustic sound by itself and also going through the preamp. The pickup was able to detect the small high end frequencies when playing an acoustic instrument. I was very surprised how good the electronics and pickups are on this unit. Usually decent electronic pickups cost more than this whole bass. This bass with D’Addario strings has a lot of character.5. Utility: If I were playing electric bass with a band, I would use this bass more because it gives the bass sound much more character. You can equalize the sound down to make it sound more like an electric bass. But because it is so cheap, you wouldn’t mind bumping into the wrong end of a mike stand or if at the beach getting sand into the sound hole. A great way to add bass to a jam at the park or the beach when you don’t have electricity.6. Loudness: If you are in a jam with 3 or more loud strumming Gibsons and/or Martins, you won’t be heard. Good time to take a break and get a beer. However if you jam with musicians who are cognizant of a balanced sound product, then you can be heard…the guitars just has to ratchet back some. Jamming with bluegrass folks, you wont be heard…banjos will drown you out if you don’t have an amplifier by your side….that’s time to get the upright.7. Lookin Good Status Symbol: NOT!!! Save your pennies and go buy that Martin or Gibson. Real bass musicians will give your equipment a double take but if you play well, they will be asking how you got a good sound out of this no name….8. Practice bass: This is great for practicing. You don’t need to plug in to hear your solo practice sessions. I really like this feature.OVERALL: I am very happy with this bass and get happier the more I use it. I will revise this review if I start changing my mind…

Title: Pleasantly Surprised
Review: I wanted to pick up a cheap beater acoustic bass and this fit the bill. I am usually an electric guitar player but I have owned many acoustics and a few basses.Mine arrived well packed. I opened it and inspected the neck, the fretboard, and the bridge because of previous reviews. I oiled up the fretboard because it was very dry. The neck seemed to be perfectly straight. The saddle slot was just fine. The nut slot was a hair too big. I may fix this in the future. What surprised me was the frets. Not a single sharp one in the bunch.I immediately noticed that it did not come with a pick guard attached. I was happy about that because I don’t play bass with a pick and I don’t like the look of an acoustic bass with a pick guard. I got the natural wood color and it looks like the picture. There’s one small flaw under the clear coat but I’m not going to get fussy about that for what this cost.It feels like it’s made from cheap materials. Nothing was bad, it’s just very lightweight. I don’t think it weighs much more than my Martin Mini which is the smallest guitar I own. However, it does seem to be well constructed so I imagine if I’m not too hard on it that it will last several years.I tuned it up and tested it out. I’ll change the strings in a few days because the great majority of factory strings are garbage, but they’ll do for a few days. I was pleasantly surprised that the intonation was about as close as you can get to perfect on an acoustic and the string height was good for me (I play a little high so your mileage may vary).I played along with a few songs through the an active speaker. The electronics aren’t anything to write home about. They work and reproduce the sound faithfully enough. The EQ isn’t great but I would have been shocked if it had been. A little work on the EQ of my active speaker and it was acceptable. I played along with a few songs on the speaker. The neck, like every gloss neck in the history of guitars, is a little sticky. I’m taking some steel wool to it tomorrow.Overall, it’s the best acoustic bass I’ve played anywhere near this price point. Of course there are going to be some flaws as this price. There will be some duds with the mass manufacturing. I was expecting to pay for a setup but it didn’t need one. I almost think this one was the one of the batch that got pulled for set up and testing, which would be fine by me because I feel like I got my money’s worth.Edit, October 2020: I’ve had this almost 6 months now. I feel exactly the same way. I didn’t end up fixing the nut slot because it plays fine and intonation is still pretty good. Still a good value for the money spent. I play it at least weekly with groups of people and it works out well.

Title: Exceptional for the price!
Review: Surprise! Fedex delivered a gem in a single ply box with no padding without a single problem. Not a bass player. Guitar for 60 years. Semi pro guitar tech.Fit and finish. Better than expected. Fit and finish very good except for some blem areas on the piping at the neck joint.Unplayable out of the box. Action way high, no relief in the neck.Removed strings and shaved saddle. Rocked frets all ok after setting. Cleaned and oiled syntheticfretboard, polished frets. Fret ends were good Reinstalled strings and tuned. String height at 12th fret bass side E 2.4mm Trereble side G 2.0. (Info neck is 15 degree radius) set relief to .10 at 8th fret. Retuned and played. After getting the hang and feel of it, played nicely with minimal buzz. Went electric through a Peavy Basic 112. Preamp an equalizer work good. Volume equal across strings. Equalizer and volume control quiet and linear. Suprise!Surprise! This thing is pretty good. Intonation acceptable just slightly off, to be expected.Tuners are marginal but work. Too soon to know how they hold tune.Overall I an very pleased with this purchase. It’s very playable and looks sturdy enough to take camping in a gig bag.Plan to replace strings asap as these suck. Probably Ernie Ball acoustic bass 45-95. If need be tuners which I have a used set of Grovers in my parts bin.Paid just over 72 bucks including shipping. Recommend only if you, family member or friend have some guitar setup skills, but then again it’s cheap enough to use to learn some skills on.

Review: I bought this from amazon after coming across this on eBay and wanting to guarantee a good shipping experience. Amazon always packs and ships well, so I ordered from here. Free shipping took less than a week to my house, and the bass arrived in perfect condition.I am very impressed with the bass as a whole! It’s a little rough around the edges, and isn’t something to brag about, but I got more than I expected out of it. I was looking for an acoustic bass to simply play and have fun with, and this exceeded my expectations for the price. It’s not the best bass you’ll ever play, but it’s the best one you’ll get for $125.The painting in the sound hole is a little iffy, and there was still masking tape on mine. As well, the fret markers along the top of the neck were a little dirty looking. Paint on the body has small imperfections, but nothing terrible. If you are a little picky, these are things that might bug you. However, sound wise, it sounds great to my ear. The body is smaller than all other acoustic basses I’ve played, but it is still pretty loud. I prefer it, it makes the instrument a little easier to handle. I had no problems with sharp frets or high action on mine. The neck feels plenty strong to hold the tension of the strings, as some other reviews have mentioned, though I do avoid the neck bends when playing The Awakening. The strings that came on mine are very nice; half the cost of the bass is probably in the strings.Over all, I am very glad I pulled the trigger on this. I am more than happy with what I got, especially considering I could easily spend this much money renting an instrument. I recommend that anybody who is looking at this to simply play and enjoy for yourself, or to use around a campfire, to simply buy it. It’s so cheap, you won’t regret it, and amazon will look after you if there are any problems.
