Zoo Med’s Spirulina 20 fish food flakes are perfect for African Cichlids, Swordtails, Platies, Guppies, Mollies, Saltwater Angels and Tangs. For daily feeding of fresh or saltwater fish. Natural color enhancer. Spirulina is a blue-green plant plankton rich in raw protein and seven major vitamins: A1, B1, B2, B6, B12, C and E. It naturally contains beta carotene, color-enhancing pigments, and a whole range of minerals. In addition, it contains all essential fatty acids and the eight amino acids required for complete nutrition. Zoo Med’s Spirulina 20 Flakes contain a full 20% Spirulina and provide a complete high protein diet for freshwater fish, marine fish, goldfish, crustaceans and invertebrates. Research has shown that fresh and saltwater fish exhibit superior growth, maturity, energetic behavior, and more elegant coloring when fed Spirulina. It is also well documented that Spirulina improves egg production and hatching rates, stimulates the reproductive processes, increases survival rates of younger fish, and arouses the appetite of fish. You’ll see an amazing difference when you feed Spirulina 20. Made in the U.S.A.

Title: Yummy! Say the Fish
Review: They seem to really like this stuffâ¦they eat it up like theyâre starving to deathâ¦which they are not. 𥰠This is all I buy them. The price for the amount of food and how long it lasts is really good. Thank you!

Title: Superb Food of Superior Quality
Review: Having kept fish for over 35 years there are few foods I haven’t tried. Along time fan of Zoo Med for a multitude of reasons. Zoo Med uses top grade ingredients and the foods are made here in the United States.Unlike so many imports from China Zoo Med foods are free of filler, sub par ingredients and what is most important free of Ethoxyquin. Ethoxyquin is a toxic pesticide often touted as a preservative – It’s long been banned from dog and cat foods however due to poor regulation lower end foods continue to use it.Studies have proven that Ethoxyquin even in trace amounts is especially lethal to fish. Studies that support this can be confirmed by simply looking ethoxyquin up on Wikipedia and follow the links to the findings.Regarding Spirulina 20 – this is an outstanding, naturally color enhancing food. Packed with protein at 45% this food is perfect for fish ranging from African Cichlids to Fancy Ornamental Goldfish – both of which I keep in a never ending accumulation of fish tanks.Spirulina is a plant based plankton often referred to as “the perfect food” it’s packed with protein, vitamins A1, B1,B2,B6,B12 and vitamins C and E. In addition Spirulina is rich in eight essential fatty amino acids – it’s a wonderfully healthy food. The flakes are huge which makes feeding a breeze – I have a huge Red Devil Cichlid who goes crazy when he sees the jar. My Ornamental goldfish and other Cichlids are equally crazy for it.Perfect for salt, fresh and brackish water fish – Spirulina 20 is an absolutely wonderful food which will enhance both the color and health of most any fish you keep.

Title: Good Choice for Fancy Goldfish
Review: I wish there were half stars because I would give this 4 and a half.I bought this because the ingredients seemed simple, transparent and fit my goldfish’s needs without including a lot of stuff that I did not think was good for him/her. This is the first time I have tried the food and I have been using it for roughly 4 months or so. I am comparing it to brands that you can usually find in pet stores in the United States.Pros:The product is pretty much as advertised: large, very fine flakes that smell like a combination of salmon and spirulina, the two main ingredients. Salmon is actually the main ingredient with spirulina right behind. There is less filler (soy, supposedly better for fish tummies than wheat), no artificial colors, no nasty preservatives (ethoxyquin) like you find in other fish food. The nutrient statistics on the bottle seem to fit what a goldfish should be eating: not really high in either protein or fat, a little lowish on fiber though, so this has to be supplemented somehow with other food.My fancy goldfish loves them: he “vacuums” them up as soon as they hit the water.Cons:The flakes do seem to attract algae into the tank. I find myself having to scrub the walls of the tank twice a week whereas before I started feeding this food, I did not have this issue. It does not seem to contain whole salmon meal, which includes the flesh and innards. Salmon meal to me means the skin and bones basically, but perhaps I am wrong about that. If I am right, whole salmon meal would be far more nutritious.Knowing how to feed a fancy goldfish these flakes without giving it swim bladder problems.Neutral:I did not seen any changes in color in my fish as advertised. He is not brighter, duller, nor has he changed colors like some do while eating food that contains molecules like beta-carotene.With respect to the last point in the “cons” section, fancy goldfish are prone to swim bladder issues. Some reviewers have complained that the flakes get smashed up but this is actually a good thing in the case of these kinds of goldfish. I break these flakes up into a small cup of tank water first, making sure that the flakes sink before feeding them to the “little nipper”. This keeps the fish from coming up to the surface of the water and gulping in air while eating the flakes. Would granules be better? Hard to say actually, because they have to be soaked until they expand fully before feeding them, otherwise they do their bloating inside the fish.I usually give these once a day to fishy. As part of a varied diet including home-made veggie gel food, freeze-dried foods like bloodworms, and seaweed, I think this flake food is great for fancy goldfish!I recommend and will be buying again.

Title: Great for African cichlids
Review: My African cichlids love this food. The only problem with this size container is that the flakes will crumble each time you reach in for a pinch. By the time youâve used half the container, the remaining flakes are tiny. I have found that it works best to pour some out in a smaller container, so the flakes in the bigger container will stay their original size until theyâre all used. My big fish like big flakes!

Title: great dog treat.. oops
Review: I got these for my spoiled fish. They were not overly interested, but did take a nibble or 2. They are spoiled, with frequent brine shrimp and other live food, so even a nibble on flakes from them is a good thing. I would like to say how they did after a few weeks, but… I went to work and my dogs devoured this. They licked the jar clean. But, isn’t that a glowing review in itself? They know better, they took a risk because this smelled like a worthy reward. Nutrient density and freshness drew their attention. Taste made them eat every last flake. Not the intended audience, but a great thumbs up regardless 😀

Title: Good food/Good price
Review: I bought this for a tank of feeder guppies that appear stressed and sick from the supplier. They readily accept it and are able to rip pieces of the flakes off. The flakes are quite large, but it’s simple to smash them a little for small fish. It floats well with bubbles present and seems to be increasing the energy and colors of my fish. The canister I received was poorly sealed, and in the unlikely event that this product was nitrogen flushed, I doubt the gas would have been well contained like a more expensive brand.I bought this largely based on the ingredients, as they appear superior (to me) to the more expensive brands, but at a very palatable price point. I base my opinion of the ingredients on the spirulina being closer to the top of the list and filler materials (such as wheat) is further down the list compared to other brands that I looked at. The bottle was filled to the top with flakes and I have no complaints.

Review: Fish seem to like it…and the amount you get for the price is amazing. My only small complaint is the size of the flakes are really big compared to other brands so it’s a bit annoying to crush them up … But that’s a minor thing
