In Think Like a Horse, veteran “horse whisperer” and leadership expert Grant Golliher applies his hard-won horse sense to teach invaluable lessons anyone can use to live a fuller, more successful life.
Grant Golliher is what some would call a “horse whisperer,” able to get a wild horse to calmly accept a saddle and a rider without the use of force. Through training thousands of horses, many traumatized or abused, Golliher was able to learn essential lessons about communication, boundaries, fairness, trust, and respect—lessons that apply not just to horses but to humans as well. It’s why celebrities, Fortune 500 executives, professional coaches, supreme court justices, and even ordinary families from around the world flock to his Wyoming ranch every year to take part in what one CEO called “the most transformational experience I have ever encountered.”
Horse whispering may sound like magic, but as Grant explains in Think Like a Horse, it’s not really all that mysterious. The lessons he shares are as fundamental and ageless as the relationship between horses, the people who ride them, and the beauty of the West. In fact, it’s an approach that anyone can learn, and should learn, in order to better understand our common humanity, overcome trauma, foster more fulfilled relationships, and unlock untapped potential in virtually every aspect of our lives. All you have to do is think like a horse.

Title: Awesome Book!
Review: I loved this book. It was so touching and an inspiration. I had a horse as a teenager so I can appreciate the training and the philosophy behind the author’s techniques. This book goes beyond horse training and applies to human relationships. The author’s lessons are so simple: “Make the right thing easy and the wrong thing difficult. Honor the slightest try and the smallest change. Be slow to take and quick to give. Always quit on a good note.” Perfect! It would be a great read for anyone.

Title: 1 of my top 5 business books
Review: I’ve read great leadership books, and Grant’s insightful stories and method of teaching a horse is brilliant; very applicable to anyone that has influence (which is my definition of a leader – which includes kids). No matter your calling, you need to read this well-written book. And then I went to see Grant ‘live’ as part of a Wild Courage retreat…..amazing! This man is as humble and genuine as I’ve ever met. You will be glad you read it – and so will those around you.

Title: Great book.
Review: I really enjoyed Grant’s book. First Grant explained the difference between humans, which are predators, and horses, which are prey animals. Notwithstanding this difference, Grant explained how thinking like a horse to gain the horse’s trust and respect and create a partnership for learning is also very effective in creating trust and respect with people and creating superior relationships. Whether you want to become a better horseman, person, spouse, parent or leader, or any combination thereof, this book will provide you valuable insight.

Title: Principles of Working with Others
Review: I really enjoyed reading this. Good strong principles of working with others through principles and stories of working with horses. I borrowed it (thanks Adam) and will buy my own copy one of these days, but I’ve been reviewing the ideas and typing things up before I give it back. This might be my new favorite parenting book suggestion. The lessons are clear and well-grounded. As it states in the introduction, “Of you reduce ‘thinking like a horse’ to a method, which many people do, it will quickly become fixed and limiting. But if you grasp the philosophy at its core, and keep coming back to it, it will guide you to the right solutions for whatever situation you happen to be in.” While I’m reviewing, it’s easy to see situations at home and working with others that these could help with.Highly recommended.

Review: “Think Like a Horse” is more than just a book about horse behavior, it’s a touching tribute to the deep bond that can be formed between a human and an animal. Grant Golliher writing style is warm and personal, making it feel like he’s sharing his life stories and wisdom with the reader. The lessons he shares about leadership, empathy, and the importance of understanding and respecting other species are not just applicable to horsemanship, but to all aspects of life. This book will make you laugh, cry, and most importantly, make you think about your own relationships and how you interact with the world around you. It’s a true masterpiece that will stay with you long after you’ve finished reading.
