#1 New York Times Bestseller

In this pathbreaking guide, two of the world’s most popular and trusted pet care advocates reveal new science to teach us how to delay aging and provide a long, happy, healthy life for our canine companions.

Like their human counterparts, dogs have been getting sicker and dying prematurely over the past few decades. Why? Scientists are beginning to understand that the chronic diseases afflicting humans—cancer, obesity, diabetes, organ degeneration, and autoimmune disorders—also beset canines. As a result, our beloved companions are vexed with preventable health problems throughout much of their lives and suffer shorter life spans. Because our pets can’t make health and lifestyle decisions for themselves, it’s up to pet parents to make smart, science-backed choices for lasting vitality and health.

The Forever Dog gives us the practical, proven tools to protect our loyal four-legged companions. Rodney Habib and Karen Becker, DVM, globetrotted (pre-pandemic) to galvanize the best wisdom from top geneticists, microbiologists, and longevity researchers; they also interviewed people whose dogs have lived into their 20s and even 30s. The result is this unprecedented and comprehensive guide, filled with surprising information, invaluable advice, and inspiring stories about dogs and the people who love them.

The Forever Dog prescriptive plan focuses on diet and nutrition, movement, environmental exposures, and stress reduction, and can be tailored to the genetic predisposition of particular breeds or mixes. The authors discuss various types of food—including what the commercial manufacturers don’t want us to know—and offer recipes, easy solutions, and tips for making sure our dogs obtain the nutrients they need. Habib and Dr. Becker also explore how external factors we often don’t think about can greatly affect a dog’s overall health and wellbeing, from everyday insults to the body and its physiology, to the role our own lifestyles and our vets’ choices play. Indeed, the health equation works both ways and can travel “up the leash.”

Medical breakthroughs have expanded our choices for canine health—if you know what they are. This definitive dog-care guide empowers us with the knowledge we need to make wise choices, and to keep our dogs healthy and happy for years to come.

Title: As a breeder this book has made an impact on us
Review: When breeding my 2 Yorkies, it always been a priority for me the health of my girls. The stronger and healthier they are the healthier foundation the puppies will have when growing inside and the better and easier my girl will recuperate from the draining process of pregnancy. As a breeder I chose puppy parents who I believe have the requirements to care for and grow one of our puppies. I include this book in our puppies to go home bag, we have Puppy Parents Date that are a most, this to minimize the trauma of leaving Mom, Dad, siblings and us , to go to a new home, in our PPDs not only puppies get familiar with their new family smell, voice and touh but we get the chance to know and talk to their parents about nutrition and healthy for our puppies. I don’t talk about the book but I encourage them to look in to finding commercial pet food with the minimal amount of chemicals and closer to what is normal in the animal kingdom or nature. Then in the go home bag I include a book. In their updates some parents proudly will send me videos of their puppies eating food with natural ingredients, which always fills my heart. Thanks guys for making this book is an easy and simple reading and very helpful for breeders like me who cares about our puppies foundations.

Title: Last third of book is where I found most value
Review: The book had a rough start for me when I ran into the C word on page 2 of the intro. Fair warning, if you are just as sick of hearing people talk about what happened globally in 2020-2021 as anything more than a planned attempt by the globalists to take over the world. I was just as disgusted and horrified to see the WHO and Harari (p. 34) cited in this book as reputable sources. It appears the authors are blind to the evil, globalist agenda and their attempt to takeover our earth with their BS and man made viruses. Anyway, once I got beyond the horrible start, I enjoyed most of the book. The brunt of the book is a presentation of their scientific evidence to support their theory that the commercial dog food industry (specifically ultra processed dry dog kibble and canned dog food) has been cause to our pooches’ demise. I agree with them! And that’s why I read this book, after my dog passed away. Because I wanted to see proof of what I knew was wrong: dog kibble kills. Of course there are many other contributing factors in the longevity of the dog life, and the authors do elaborate on those. There wasn’t a whole lot of info on healthy flea/tick and heartworm preventative/treatment options unfortunately, and I cannot believe they never even mentioned diatomaceous earth!! Do they not know the immense health benefits of food-grade DE?! I have been feeding it to my animals for years as a de-wormer and source of added minerals. No heart worm meds needed. That missing piece of info astounded me. DE is cheap and plentiful (diatomaceousearth.com). I take it myself. Overall, the book was informative and confirmed what I suspected: that cooking for your dog is just as healthy for them as it is for you. I cooked my late dog’s food for the last 7 of her 14 years of life, but I never added vitamins/minerals/supplements to her food because I thought “If I don’t need to add them to my meals, why do I have to add them to my dog’s?” That wasn’t answered in the book. Why can’t I just feed my dog a chicken, rice, organ, broth, and veggie dinner and call that good? My body gets everything I need from eating that, so why would I have to crush supplement pills to add to my dog’s meal? Seems stupid. I live in the country and would let my dog outside to hunt and eat wild mice and rabbits every now and then (and fed DE to get rid of those intestinal worms) in addition to feeding homemade meals using meat from our farmed animals. Good read. I recommend to anyone who has a dog. Form your own opinions and listen to what your dog is telling you.

Title: The world needs this!
Review: If I could give this book ten stars, I would! I have been a follower of Dr. Becker for years and this book is truly transformative. I have always been deep into dog food nutrition but this book has so much context. It is enlightening to learn how much our human selves and our beloved pups, by sharing the same environment, have parallel needs. It is packed with information, but delivered in a way that is easy to understand. If you have a dog, you MUST read this book.

Review: Bought it in softback version. It’s a good read, it can be a little “wordy” and seem like a text book in parts but overall enjoyable.
