Product Description
3 Live Pom Pom Crabs (Ptychognathus barbatus) – .5 – 1 inch Young Adult Freshwater Crabs – Fully Aquatic Crayfish Alternative! by Aquatic Arts
The Freshwater Pom Pom Crab (Ptychognathus barbatus) is extremely rare and has proven to be a very endearing, interesting, and durable candidate for the freshwater community aquarium. Very little information is available for this crab, but we have done extensive research to determine proper care for this crab in our in-house facility
Like most crabs, the Pom Pom Crab is an omnivorous scavenger. In addition to eating food items that collect on the patches of hair (“pom poms”) that grow on its claws, it feeds on algae and detritus in the aquarium and will also readily accept high-quality dry foods rich in plant matter. We also occasionally feed them protein-rich frozen foods such as bloodworms
CARE GUIDELINES:
– Temperature: 68-78° F (20-25° C)
– pH: 6.2-7.2
– KH: 1-5 dKH
– Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallons
Diet:
Omnivorous. High-quality sinking flakes/pellets, plants/algae, and freeze-dried or frozen meaty foods will be readily accepted. Cuttlebone should be added to the aquarium to supplement calcium, which will aid in exoskeleton production.
Social Behavior:
Peaceful
Origin:
Madagascar, Taiwan, New Caledonia
Average Adult Size:
1 inch (2.5 cm) or less
Average Purchase Size:
.5-1 inch (1.7-2.5 cm)
The Pom Pom Crab inhabits both brackish and fully freshwater areas; it is suspected this crab spawns only in brackish water. Unlike most freshwater crabs, this crab is fully aquatic. However, we recommend keeping your water line relatively low or keeping a lid on your aquarium, as these crabs are occasional escape artists.
This crab is very peaceful and shows no interest in its tankmates. Even in a small aquarium with dwarf shrimp, the Pom Pom Crabs we housed never showed aggression.
The Pom Pom is a very small crab (most will be 1 inch or less at the time of purchase but they can grow up to 1.5 to 1.75 inches). This small size makes them ideal for nano tanks.

We are thrilled to be perhaps the only North American retailer to offer the rare and premium Freshwater Pom Pom Crab! It is named for its unique claws, which resemble pom poms or boxing gloves.
These small crabs ship as a .5 to 1 inch diameter young adult and growth will not exceed 1.75 inches in diameter. Their claws are jumbo in proportion, but not nearly as large as fiddler crab claws!
These crabs do best when you supplement their diet with calcium and flakes rich in protein and plant matter. A floor of substrate or bedding is a must.
Great for a community or nano fish aquarium. They do best in tanks with plenty of places that provide shelter, such as aquatic plants and aquarium decorations (driftwood, a plastic castle, etc.).
Each Aquatic Arts brand plants and animals pack comes with a 100% live arrival guarantee, offer of replacement or return of DOAs.

Title: Disappeared never to be seen again after placing in tank.
Review: I am very disappointed with my purchase of my Pom Pom Crab. The crab arrived alive and well. I followed all the 9 acclimation steps exactly as written. When I removed the crab and placed him at the bottom of my 10-gallon tank, he quickly scampered off to the back of the tank where it has remained invisible, now for three full days, somewhere within the (only) 4 plants. I even left the tank light off all day and night and come morning; I began with the blue (moonlight) tank light before switching over to the bright (daylight) tank light. But three days later, I have never seen the crab again since I placed it in the tank. No sign of him whatsoever. Is it hiding? If so, where and for how long? I lifted and looked under the aqua rock â not there. I carefully moved the plants aside â no sign of it there. Where did my Pom Pom Crab go!? How and why did it disappear? Very disappointed! I even bought in advance Bloodworms and Hikari Crab Cuisine, both verifiable Amazon purchases, but I canât find a crab to feed it to! What a wasted amount of money!
