Title: He gets right to the point
Review: He gets right to the point. Not overloaded with words, just information. It’s an easy read for me, however, I have an extensive background in electronics spanning many years as first a technician, and then as an engineer working in industry. However, I liked the style, and it lends itself to a great reference book in electronics. And I feel it would work well for the novice as well as the seasoned professional who has been out of electronics and needs a handy reference book.

Title: A Great Summation for Beginners
Review: As a technical writer, I realized it would be vital to have at least a layman’s education in electrical devices. Bought this to get up to speed on the subject and has been very helpful. Also great: the author offers access to a PDF copy of the book for when the reader is away from an internet connection to get at the Kindle version.

Title: Great jumping off point for beginners!
Review: Iâm new to this field of study and I am really liking the well explained but concise writing of this book. I recommend it to anyone just starting with electronics but donât want to wade through some of the bigger titles out there. You will need to know some high school level + mathematics to keep moving in this book.

Title: Not as it seems
Review: I ordered this book because I am interested in learning more about how electricity works and more especially how electrical components work like resistors, relays, capacitors, etc and this book day says electrical engineering basics in 7 days so I assumed it would be pretty simple to understand but once I opened it and read maybe 12 pages I realized that this book is basically the learning blocks for algebra, trigonometry, calculus, etc. I had no expectations of having to re-learn all of that. This would be a great book for someone in high school or starting college to help understand their mathematics courses

Title: Mostly correct; needs an editor
Review: It’s hard to strike a good balance between approachability and completeness when writing an introductory book such as this. Too much complexity glazes more eyes than a 12-hour flight, while too simplistic of an explanation will inevitably draw to most pedantic criticism since the Warren Commissionâs report. Unfortunately, this book is all over the map. Some things are far too superficial (the concept of voltage is introduced without even mentioning one volt is one joule per coulomb of specific potential energy) while other areas throw the reader right into the deep end of the pool (magnetic permeability was discussed, but what magnetic flux represents was not). You can explain electrical concepts without hiding behind the math. But you have to start from zero and build up, explaining every part of the model youâre building. For example: âSome of the more obvious effects a magnet has on its surroundings, such as causing a compass needle to twist around, kind of resemble the effects of some sort of invisible fluid. The early researchers called this flow âfluxâ. The more flow (flux), the stronger the effect (torque). The more flux per unit area (flux density), the more effect. And so on.âThen there are the typos. For example, one horsepower is approximately 746 watts, not 735 W. And what is a âPrint-differenceâ in figure 8? I think this is âdifference in pressureâ (d/p), except the flow direction through the pump is indicated backwards (downward).Overall, Iâd say this is a good first attempt to convert someoneâs notes from their own classes into a brief introduction for other newcomers. But it really needs more polish, especially at this price, before itâs ready for use. I would recommend running it past someone who actually teaches electrical theory at this level, fixing the typos, and re-releasing it for no more than $5 per copy.

Title: Terrific review that restores the basics
Review: If you’ve forgotten Calculus or never taken it, this distills the critical math you need to know to move forward with electronics/electricity. Same with the fundamentals of electronics. While some areas could use more explanations (historical anecdotes are always helpful), the fact that all of the critical and fundamental concepts are brought to one place so that you know what to study deeper is what makes this book an excellent read. It’s almost a cliff notes book on refreshing the basics, but goes deeper to help concepts click. You won’t be designing circuits from this book – think of it more like an EE fundamentals course book – a college EE freshman book. It’s quite well written.

Title: Good, but could use a little more
Review: o far really liking this book. I found it as a really neat and concise introduction to electrical principles. Though as a stand alone read you might not pick up on everything.I would highly recommend searching out supplementary materials (maybe watch a few videos if you are struggling to grasp a concept) and DEFINITELY try and seek out more practice questions. Most of the times when trying to quiz you on what you learned, you will only receive 1 question to practice, 2 if the concept may have been a bit larger.Practice and repetition are ultimately what makes confusing concepts stick and make sense, so if you want to really get something out of this book, try and find some quizzes. What would be even better is if this book gets a second edition one day, please include a full fledged practice quiz for a topic.

Review: I found this book to be a very good introduction to the topic. There is a useful math and physics review that most people can figure out with a bit of effort. The meat of this text is written in an accessible way that assumes little to no prior knowledge. Great gateway text for further reading or even formal studies. A bonus is that the author is responsive by email and will send a pdf version if you ask (and have purchased the print version of course)
