Title: Much better than trying to mark 2 sides of a 2×4 with a regular square
Review: Â For years, when I cut a 2×4, I draw a line across the top with a square, then put the square down the side and try to line it up with the first mark. I could generally get it close, but I never knew for sure just how close. With this tool, I won’t have to wonder any more. I should have bought one of these years ago. (It isn’t like I couldn’t have afforded it before now.)Even without trying to square this against another square, it was close enough just putting it together to draw a line all the way around a 2×4 and end up right back where I started from. (I’m sure that any lines that aren’t quite perfect in my video are my own clumsiness.)My only complaint is that I wish the long edge was 3-1/2″ instead of just 3″, so that it would go completely across a 2×4. It’s a real shame, because it would have been a simple design change. By putting a triangle over a rectangle, the rectangle isn’t long enough to span a 2×4. If that piece was a full triangle, it would have reached. So, the manufacturer saved a few cents per piece, and lessened its usability. Bad form. I would have given it 5 stars except for this. One thing to point out. It can be disassembled, although I’m not really sure why I ever would. But it comes disassembled. The screws are tiny, and there’s an included Allen wrench. Now that I’ve got it together, the wrench goes in my toolbox with the other half dozen Allen wrenches I’ve accumulated over the years. ;)BUT, those screws are tiny. (I think I already said that.) I had the presence of mind to assemble it over something that would catch the screws if I dropped them. It’s a good thing, too, because I dropped one of them. Twice. If I had been holding it in front of myself, and it had dropped on the floor of my shop, I would still be down there trying to find it. So, be careful putting it together.

Title: Saddle square
Review: Intent is to use this mostly as a saddle square (marking lines around a piece) and for that, it seems useful. Solid construction, nicely anodized, clear markings… These markings are not etched, only printed, so may not last. but I won’t be using this for measuring anyway.Downside is that it doesn’t fit very well into a shop apron pocket, but that’s NDB. Judging by my best, most accurate ruler, the measuring scales are everso slightly off (1/64″ over 3″) on two of the three sides. That little bit of “offness” isn’t a big problem for woodworking, but is still bothersome to look at.All in all, a nice addition to the toolkit.
