Title: Terrible, a modern type 1 from maxell would sound better
Review: I bought one a year ago, and i bought one recently. The quality has barely changed. They sound way too bassy, and not in a good way, i mean in a heavy distortion way. Plus, despite using thicker tape than the ones they sold a year ago, the tape wrinkled VERY easily, i didnt touch the tape surface, and neither my cassette deck nor my walkman ate it. If you want a good cassette to record with, do yourself a favor: buy a modern maxell type 1, or an older chrome tape from the 80s and 90s, your ears will thank you.

Title: Just get an older type II tape
Review: These tapes are pretty disappointing, right off the bat.I bought a few of these and used them in my tascam 4-track using the recommended stuff (DBX, high speed, also tested without). The quality is pretty subpar for a type II. There’s definitely a volume cut upon playback, and tracks can sound pretty thin. One odd aspect is that the tape occasionally crackles throughout in a way that almost sounds like a vinyl record pop. I bought multiples and they all sound this way. I recorded the same guitar with the same EQ and the same microphone and mic placement on a Maxell type II and man oh man, the difference is night and day. Great balance, perfect treble and bass, punchy and clear with no volume loss. They just can’t make these tapes the same anymore I suppose and that’s a real shame.I honestly would not be surprised if these Tascam tapes are just type I tapes coated black (type I tape is brown, while type II is black). Looking online, the general consensus seems to be that these tapes are definitely inferior to NOS. Ultimately, still totally usable and not a total waste of money but it should be clear that these tapes will not get you the quality that an older Maxell or SDK type II will.

Title: Not a tape for Audiophiles
Review: Sadly, due environmental concerns, the Type 2 Chrome tapes of the past that we came to know and love can no longer be produced. Tascam developed a Cobalt Oxide compound for Type 2 tapes due to this constriction. If you’re a audiophile using a high-end vintage cassette deck copying songs on to a tape, this is not the product for you. This was designed for a Tascam PortaPro, allows engineers and artists create warm analog lofi sound signature with their recordings. If you’re an audiophile you are looking make a high quality recording with minimal hiss, and no distortion, you’re better off buying New Old-Stock Chrome tapes or a high quality Type 1 tape. Tascam’s Cobalt Oxide tape has too much noise(even when tested with Dolby S NR) and the high frequencies and bass are distorted. I do appreciate Tascam making a new Type 2 cassette, it shows that there’s a growing demand for tapes again

Title: Absolute Garbage for Portastudio Recording
Review: I was not able to pin down the exact part of the tape that causes the issue, but it is either the spools or the tape thickness, but these tapes had terrible speed fluctuations during recording. Waste of money!

Review: I prefer to buy new stuff if it’s still produced – rather than 20 years old tapes.Purchased this tape to test it but sound quality results on Type II (CrO2) settings are as bad as bad-quality Type I tapes designed for basic speech recordings. I’d say it’s rather Type I (Fe2O3) tape.So don’t expect any good recordings results from it.Real Type II (CrO2) tapes have much better quality, so unfortunately I have to still buy NOS tapes from 90s.
