Title: Think of it as an 8 input 20 track recorder with 8 mono tracks and 12 additional stereo or mono tracks
Review: Think of it as a 20 track recorder with 8 mono tracks and 12 additional stereo or monoI previously owned a Tascam 2488NeoThe TASCAM DP-32SD 32-Track Digital Porta studio has much improved preamps over the Neo and No noisy hard drives. It uses an SDHC card. I USE a 32 GB SanDisk Extreme PRO 32GB UHS-I/U3 SDHC Flash Memory Card with up to 95MB/s- SDSDXPA-032G-AFFP. I get no pops or clicks recording @ 24bit 48 kHz (Amazon has it)You get no MIDI DIN connectors or S/PDIF’s (NO MIDI or DIGITAL in outs) and NO CD-R like on the Neo.PUNCH IN and OUT’s are very tight, and locate markers are very easy to use with the DP-32SD.The Tascam RC-3F Foot Switch is a worthwhile add on for recording and “PUNCH IN OUTS” while your hands are busy (Amazon has it).MENU and LED buttons have a much better lay out than the NeoDISPLAY is easy to read. Built in head phone amp is much improved over the NeoIn All, I use this to record a musical group (all at the same time with 8 inputs) while playing to the built in metronome click (The click is rock solid). I record at 24bit 48k. I do not mix, master, or use the built in FX.After recording the audio tracks, I remove the SDHC card and place it into my PC DAW where I edit and Mix down – Master. The TASCAM DP-32SD 32-Track Digital Porta studio does a stellar job for the price. It truly improves my work flow when recording a multi musician simultaneous input situation compared to DAWs.No Clicks, Pops, Stuttering or long waits to render @ 24bit 48kFaders and all knobs are solid. Power supply is now external compared to the Neo, so it is very easy to replace without having to send the unit in for repair.Be careful plugging and unplugging XLR cables from the rear 8 inputs. The plastic disk will break off if you are overzealous.Again, If you don’t want to use a PC or MAC but want to record up to 8 tracks at a time, and don’t need midi sync. This solid machine is your ticket.

Title: Top Japanese Quality.
Review: I am not a musician, so I will not give my opinion based on that. But I have a strong background in Electronic and Computers. Having said that, I can say that the quality of this device is extremely high. TEAC is a Japanese company that has been involved in Musical Instruments for a while. The unit is not manufactured in Japan which I would have preferred, but in China. Still I am impressed with the quality. It feels heavy, sturdy, etc. Not everything is top quality, some of knobs are a little flimsy(Chinese quality may be? Price range may be? I did not pay a thousand Dollars for it), the inputs and track knobs feel that way. Other than that, the unit is extremely well made. No easy to learn all the features it has to offer, there is a learning curve, as they say, no-pain no-gain. We already recorded some songs, and we are impress with the results.UPDATE 06/14/17:Still leaning how to use all it has to offer. For a home recording there is nothing better out there than the TASCAM DP-32SD. Usually we recorder a song, and use Audacity(free software) to perform the mixdown, add compression, normalize if necessary, clean up, etc. Finally create MP3 files so they can be played basically anywhere.I performed some tests on it. I fed 1Hz 1 volt PP, then I moved to the other extreme of the human hearing capability, and fed 21khz same level 1V PP, all these frequencies are passed with basically no degradation. If I increase the frequency a little higher than 21Khz, the degradation is noticeable which is expected.

Title: Great alternative to always being tethered to a DAW
Review: I’ve been using a computer DAW setup for quite a few years but I decided to purchase this for those times where I just want to hit record and go. The audio quality is excellent and the built in effects are very good. There are a few limitations such as the number of effects that can be used together and the editing is a bit more cumbersome with limitations. However, it’s a very easy process to take your recordings from the Tascam and export them to your DAW. I’m not abandoning my DAW completely, just adding another option. I will still do some editing and final mixing in my DAW for the tracks I record on the Tascam. I think it’s the best of both worlds to have both available. It’s also a great setup for mobile recording. You can record up to 8 tracks simultaneously with 32 total tracks and it’s a simple task to pack it up and go such as for recording a live band, etc. I think you can’t go wrong especially at this price.

Review: If you owned a Tascam before you will like how many of the features stayed the same and how they made other functions simplifier. The storage method is superior to old hard drives. WAV files make it easy to send to Pro Tools and other systems. If you use Dropbox you can quickly share your work with anyone else. Thinner frame and much lighter. Quieter electronics and better DSPs. Thinner manual but not as easy to follow. Well worth the price. Great pre-amps and dual phantom power.

Review: I have been making music since I was young and from a small tape recorder at that time with lots of WOW and FLUTTER, today with our digital technology we can expect what the DP32SD gives, a very good sound, very interesting to learn all about it, lots of pleasure to make music with such a very nice recorder. The manual is not always clear but we have to experiment to find the solutions to achieve our musical project. The video screen is very pleasant to work with, very colorful and understandable. It is my 3rd recorder from TASCAM and all of them were good. Try it you’ll see !

Review: I ordered three months ago to lock in the sale price and payment plan. Finally shipped. Definitely worth the wait. A true beast of a machine. When you consider the original 4-track cassette Portastudio 144 retailed for around US$900 in 1980 (that’s around US$2700 today), the Tascam flagship is a bargain even if you pay full price. Yes, anything you can do with this you can also do with a computer/interface/DAW setup. But there is just something gloriously inspiring and nostalgic about working on a recorder that is the descendent of the great multitrack machines of the past. Feature packed but still easy to get started. The manual is dry so be sure to check out excellent YouTube reviews and tutorials. One last thing–several Tascam recorders are plagued with preamp noise, but the DP32SD is just glorious–just record on 24bit for best results.

Review: As many people have mentioned, there is a definite learning curve to exploring and recording on this Tascam. It is replacing a Tascam 244 which is very basic compared to the effects and multiple tools to work with. So far I have only transferred some of the recordings from the 244 to the DP-32SD which allowed to work with some of the features of it. I hope to very soon lay down some new tracks and work with them which I am excited to do.Like any other new toy, it takes time to learn, however I feel confident that this will be used even more than the 244 and hopefully last just as long if not longer. If you have any basic recording skills or eager to learn this multi-track recorder is for you.
