Title: Great tool for musicians
Review: This is a great little product. Possibly the best 4 track for musicians right now.FOR MUSICIANS being the key words here. This was never meant to replace field recorders. So if your expectations were to replace or upgrade from the Zoom h4n to record weddings or live events, then this is not the product for that. For musicians capturing ideas and creating quick demos is a great tool.Learning curve is not that hard. Compared to other multitracks is actually pretty simple. It’s also not expensive, if you compare it to the other 4 track for musicians alternatives out there that costs almost as much and offer much less.Keeping the original tracks intact after bouncing is just amazing.I haven’t tried moving the track files to a DAW, but I see myself recording with an ABY signal to make quick demos with a “dirty”t track, but always have a clean direct track that I can bring to a DAW and reamp to taste with more advanced effect.Only downside so far, and I’m nitpicking here, is the battery duration and expense. But that can be fixed with rechargeable batteries.

Title: Awesome!
Review: So, I have been playing guitar and keyboards for several decades and have used many types of electronic equipment including recording multitrack units. I have to say that the R4 is so incredibly easy to use that I am at a loss as to why so many of the similar units out there have to be so complicated to use. Simply put, the R4 is a joy to use, easy to set up, easy to record, easy to playback, and a lot of fun to use. The sound quality is outstanding, too. The bounce feature allows you to record 4 tracks and then bounce them to another track and then you can record another four tracks. You can keep doing this over and over again. I saw a user state that the track time limit is 19 minutes. He must have misread the actual number because the actual length of time a track can record is 93 minutes, and the available memory is 1 Terrabyte maximum. What an awesome device! I love it and highly recommend it to any musician.

Title: Sounds good
Review: I actually prefer the onboard mic over my Shure dynamic mic. Sometimes it sounds maxed out if I’m yelling, but I still get the unclipped audio when I export it.I already have a focusrite in my puter so I will to wait until I get my new laptop before trying this for an audio interface, I hope there is little latencyEffects are mostly cheesy sounding.

Title: Compact power
Review: Just unpacked this unit and put it to work. The sound quality is incredible with alot of features for its compact size. Itâs easy to use and is packed with plenty of effects for most projects. The effects also sound nice. The best feature is the Bounce track that allows unlimited bouncing and mixing. Another great feature is that all of your individual tracks remain intact even after Bouncing. Think of this as nondestructive editing. Itâs a very useful and powerful feature. To use this unit as an audio interface for your computer, phone or iPad make sure you use a USB Data transfer cable and not just a charging cable. To make your track library easy to navigate start by setting up a New Project and give it a specific name. Then all of your related tracks will reference back to that Project.Zoom has packed this unit with very high end audio tech and the unit sounds very professional.

Title: ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC ONE OF A KIND
Review: Being a songwriter/musician/producer I have owned many multitrack recorders over the last 30 years or so and they’re mostly all good but this one stands out from the rest as the most straight-forward, easy to use of them all. It gives you the capability of pocket multi-tracking at any time as simple as taking it out, making your settings (which is extremely easy the way it’s laid out) and pushing a button and if you run out of tracks, just bounce, and you’ve got more. Super simple to add insert or send effects, assign inputs to tracks, and everything else that’s required and to boot there are plenty of built-in effects and even a drum machine. The best part is you don’t have to worry if your input settings are good because the 32 bit float recording feature assures that you won’t have to discard tracks for clipping. My only criticism is no separate fader for the bounce track but thatâs a minor inconvenience. If you want a great multitrack machine thatâs easy to use on the fly BUY THIS ONE! You won’t regret it.

Title: Confusing recording process and menu system, no designated audio out, it’s okish
Review: I’m a videographer and I wanted a device between my microphones and my camera. I was extremely excited to buy this as it’s pretty hyped for the float audio. I should have done my homework and saved my money. While the R4 looks cool, it has an extremely confusing workflow. The idea of having to hold down buttons to interact with certain functions or menus is dated and cheap. On my old zoom H4n you hit record once to see levels, you hit record one more time and bam, you’re recording. that’s it. Here you have to create a new project, and I’m not even sure what comes next, because stopping and starting puts everything one one track. The worst feature, or lack thereof is NO DESIGNATED AUDIO OUT. How does my 2019 H4n have the ability to use the headphone jack as an audio out and this doesn’t? There’s no switching to 44k, it’s 48 all the way. So to summarize, this is a no frills 32-Bit float recorder with no audio out, confusing recording process and bare bones functions in a non-user friendly menu. I don’t hate it, $200 isn’t a terrible price point, I’m not mad I’m just disappointed in some of zoom’s choices.

Title: Exactly as advertised
Review: This is a handy small four track with great features which doubles as a capable audio interface. I have several Zoom products and a I love them all.I noticed in another review a videographer got one of these and was not happy. This is for musicians. The H or M line is better suited for videographers and such.Zoom makes many different types of products, do your research and you will find what you need. For musicians this is a top notch bit of kit.
